Islands of Our Own (2022)

As Associate Producer, I managed the legal and logistical aspects of the project, starting in London. I navigated international filming laws and secured clearances for transporting equipment, including specialised underwater gear, ensuring compliance with airline and destination country regulations. This also involved obtaining permits and insurance approval for our cinematographer’s underwater work based on their diving certification. I conducted an extensive risk assessment, addressing challenges such as international travel during COVID-19, accommodation and equipment security, public filming permits, overseas health coverage, and environmental hazards such as filming in sandy, underwater, and uneven locations.

The pandemic presented significant hurdles, including travel restrictions and safety protocols. Despite careful planning, I contracted COVID-19 upon arrival in the Maldives and had to step back from on-site work. Thanks to the incredible talent and dedication of the director-producer and DoP, the production continued successfully.

The documentary was completed despite the challenges, delivering a powerful and human-centred perspective on climate change. It stands as a testament to meticulous preparation and the resilience of the filmmaking team.
